Astaxanthin (pronounced asta-zan-thin) is a carotenoid, very high in anti-oxidants (ten times the potency of B-carotene, which you find in carrots) Astaxanthin comes from micro-algae. The alga produces astaxanthin in order to protect itself from the sun’s harmful rays. The healing power of astaxanthin is so great it can keep the algae alive even after it has been dried up for over 40 years.
Astaxanthin is very effective in reducing harmful free radicals, supporting health at a cellular level and is also the world’s strongest natural anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. As such Astaxanthin has potential as a therapy in atherosclerotic cardiovascular heart disease.
There have been a few studies on humans relating to the effects of astaxanthin on cardiovascular disease. There have been many more on various other species of animals though. Several experimental studies have demonstrated that astaxanthin can be very effective in protecting the heart muscles prior to and after a cardiac event such as a heart attack or stroke. Astaxanthin has also been proven to be effective in lowering cholesterol and reducing blood pressure.
Astaxanthin first came to the attention of scientists when they discovered extremely high concentrations in wild salmon. This has been attributed to the fish’s unique ability to swim across oceans and then up waterfalls. These fish have almost no incidence of cancer or other diseases either.
Valasta produce the world’s most absorbable astaxanthin, through our patented electromagnetic production method We combine the molecules with fat using nano-technology. This makes the body able to absorb the astaxanthin as opposed to being destroyed by the stomach acid. There is little point taking any supplement unless it can be ingested effectively by the body.
Astaxanthin as a dietary supplement has proved to be effective in complementing a healthier diet and taking regular exercise in providing the body the anti-oxidants it needs to combat heart disease. C Reactive Protein (CRP) is a measure of the oxidation levels of your cells (how many damaged cells you have in your body). Astaxanthin has proved in medical studies to be able to significantly reduce CRP levels.
As Oxidative stress and inflammation (which can both be reversed by administering an anti-oxidant) are common features of atherosclerosis * and heart disease.
*Atherosclerosis refers to the build-up of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on your artery walls (plaque), which can restrict blood flow. The plaque can burst, triggering a blood clot. Although atherosclerosis is often considered a heart problem, it can affect arteries anywhere in your body
